Louis van Gaal is set to return to Old Trafford on Sunday for the first time since his sacking.
But the veteran Dutch coach will be coming to Manchester United in another capacity.
The former United boss, axed last May after two years in charge shortly after delivering FA Cup final victory, is expected to be among the VIP guests paying tribute to Carrick for his 11 years’ service to the Red Devils.
Carrick will play for United’s Champions League and Premier League-winning side from 2008, alongside Edwin van der Sar, Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney, Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, against an All Stars XI.
