"ANTHONY MARTIAL HAS FRIGHTENING QUALITIES"...CARRICK.

Michael Carrick has branded Anthony Martial's ability “frightening” after the Manchester United striker enjoyed a long overdue return to form.

Martial scored twice in United's 4-1 EFL Cup win over West Ham at Old Trafford to add to his paltry two goals so far in the season; having scored 17 on his debut season.

But midfield linchpin, Carrick insisted Martial's talent was never in doubt and said there was far more to come from the 20 year-old, signed from Monaco for £36million, with the fee potentially rising to £58million.

“The ability and attributes he's got are frightening at times,” said Carrick. “When he's on fire he's a threat for anyone.

“He started the game terrifically well and grew as the game went on. It's great to see him playing like that.

“He's fully confident and believing. There's plenty more to come from him, which is a good sign for us."

Asked if he had tried to help Martial come through his poor form, Carrick said: “You try and help when you can, but I'm not one of those who has big chats with people.

“In all sorts of different situations you try to give a bit of advice if you feel you can. It depends what the situation is, really.”

United will play Hull city in the semifinals of the EFL Cup.
