ARSENE WENGER REJECTS A MOUTHWATERING CONTRACT OFFER IN CHINA.
Arsene Wenger has turned down a huge £30million-a-year offer to move to China.
Arsenal manager Wenger was made an offer which will make him the highest paid manager in world football with his long-term future at the Gunners in serious doubt.
The 67-year-old Frenchman has had several approaches since revealing that he is determined to carry on managing next season.
He is clearly determined to stay at the highest level in Europe — whether or not that is at Arsenal.
Wenger, whose current £8m-a-year deal expires this summer, knows there is a new two-year contract on the table for him to stay at the Emirates.
But there is serious doubt among the hierarchy at the club over whether he will stay, and Arsenal have already made discreet enquiries about potential replacements.
Wenger could yet stay on though, with most of the potential successors struggling at their current clubs.
The leading contender, Thomas Tuchel, has endured a disappointing season at Germany's Borussia Dortmund. while Juventus boss Max Allegri is undecided on his own future at a club on course for a sixth successive Italian title.
Several Arsenal players have made it clear they want Wenger to stay, but he is keeping his cards close to his chest — even the coaching staff are uncertain of his plans.
''WE ARE ALL PLAYING FOR OUR FUTURES HERE''...KLOPP WARNS.
Jurgen Klopp warned everyone at Liverpool is playing for their futures, including himself.
In his reaction to Liverpool’s defeat against Leicester on Monday, Klopp was very honest as he bemoaned the Reds dismal performance as they are now in great danger of missing out of next season's Champions League, having started so well this season.
Liverpool have managed just one win in 2017 and Klopp made it clear that they have been nowhere near good enough.
Kop boss Klopp said: “It's getting more serious now. We all play for our futures, myself included.
“We get judged every day, especially on match days. Of course performances have influence on these things.
“I don’t think they aren’t as good as I thought, but I think they need my help more to show it every week.
''I feel maximum responsible because I am. I hope I use the word ‘we’ and not ‘they’ because I’m involved in this.''
“It's not the moment to make assessments like this, especially not in public. But I try to say the truth as often as possible.
''But bad performances don’t help anyone, that’s clear.”
Klopp added: “It was not good enough in the beginning, not good enough in the middle and in the end.
''It was 100 per cent clear what happened with Leicester tonight.''
“It was clear how emotional the game was because if Leicester didn’t show emotion it would be really strange.
''The first goal was like a friendly game. Player down, throwing, header, one pass.
“But we can’t blame anyone else for this performance. It’s our fault.''
''We can’t make any excuses, it’s our responsibility. It doesn’t make it better, because our job is to react.''
What happened tonight has happened too often this season.
“Everyone knows how good we can be. So that makes it even worse to accept a performance like this tonight.
''It's easier in a foreign language to talk about victories than about defeats.''
''There’s not a lot more to say. You can ask all the questions but I’m not sure I can explain it better.''
“We’ve brought on this situation and now everyone can doubt our attitude, and that's really our fault, our mistake.
Nobody else. I cannot change the result now.”

MOURINHO TELL MAN. UTD. FANS HOW BEST TO STOP ZLATAN FROM LEAVING.
Mourinho was full of praise for his side after his side beat Southampton 3-2 to win the EFL Cup.
The Portuguese particularly praised two-goal hero Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whose United's contract expires at the end of the season.
Mourinho even asked fans to camp outside Ibrahimovic's house to urge the 26-goal striker to stay at the Theatre of Dreams beyond this season.
"I never bank for a player to sign a contract," the Special One said.
"I never bank for a player to play for me.
One day Zlatan decided to go to Barcelona and I was very sad and did nothing to try to stop him to go.
So I don’t bank for players.
"But, if needed, I think maybe United fans can go to the door of his house and stay there all night.
If needed, I think they will go for sure.
"We all want and all believe that he's going to stay with us one more season."
''I'VE WON IN 7 MONTHS WHAT THEY WON IN 10 YEARS''; ZLATAN AIMS AT ARSENAL.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic appeared to take a swipe at Arsenal after Manchester United's EFL Cup victory.
The Swede scored twice as United beat Southampton at Wembley.
The big Swede's 35-yard free-kick gave Mourinho's Men the lead in the first half, before he headed the winner three minutes from time.
It was the striker's 26th goal of the season since moving to Old Trafford on a free transfer last summer.
Having already won the Community Shield during his short time in Manchester, the Swede seemingly had a dig at the Gunners.
Arsenal have won the FA Cup and Community Shield twice each in recent years but continue to wait for the Premier League title.
"We are winning. After seven months I have two trophies with this club,’ said Ibrahimovic.
"There are other clubs that didn’t win for 10 years. I’ve won what they won in 10 years, so I’m happy with that."
The victory also saw United move ahead of Liverpool as the most-successful club in England, with their 42nd honour.
Ibrahimovic added: "This is what I predicted. I came here to show people what I would do and I’m doing it.
“I came to win and I want to keep going. The more I win the more satisfied I get."
FABREGAS HAPPY TO BE BACK PLAYING REGULARLY AGAIN FOR CHELSEA.
Chelsea midfielder, Cesc Fabregas believes he is winning the biggest battle of his career.
The Spaniard admits it would have been easy to sulk, run away and quit Chelsea after losing his place when Antonio Conte took over the reigns at Stamford Bridge last summer.
But Fabregas says his love of English football, London and a new found maturity convinced him to stay and fight for his future at Stamford Bridge.
However, the 29-year old's determination is paying huge dividends because on Saturday, he capped his 300th Premier League appearance with a goal, an assist and a man-of-the match performance.
The Chelsea midfielder said: “Experience and maturity gives you this because in the beginning when I didn’t play, I told people not even to speak to me because I was really upset.
“But that changes with time. Age, maturity and experience helps you understand that the most important thing is always the team.
“Don’t get me wrong, I want to play. Every football player wants to play every single minute but sometimes you have to fight for it.
Sometimes the easy way is to escape, to run away, to sulk and to want to leave, to create a drama.
“But in my mind, I decided I wanted to challenge myself, not everything comes easy in life, sometimes you have to fight certain situations you are not used to, or are against you in a way.
But hopefully I have shown the manager can trust me in a way.”
Fabregas added: “What keeps me going is the fact that I feel really good, I feel in great condition to play football for a very long time.
I know in my legs, in my mind, I know I’ve played many more games than a 29-year-old is supposed to play.
“But I feel young in my mind. It’s all in the mind. I feel fresh.
Now with Conte, I’m learning new things, new situations, new manners, new football, new philosophy which makes a difference, it makes it entertaining.
“I know sometimes I didn’t play as much but even in training I’m learning and sometimes you think if you’ve been playing for a long time, won a lot, you’ve done everything and then you realise that in football you can never know everything.
“I’m in a good moment, a good situation and hopefully I’ve reversed the situation from the beginning of the season to now and hopefully I can keep playing like that to keep my place.”
Fabregas was terrific against Swansea, opening the scoring, hitting the crossbar and then helping inspire the victory as Pedro and Diego Costa struck late on after Fernando Llorente equalised.
The Chelsea fans were chanting his name at the end nearly as loudly as when Frank Lampard was given a hero’s reception at half time when he was paraded on the pitch after announcing his retirement.
That is a big compliment to Fabregas as having played for London rivals Arsenal, it was always going to be tough to win some over but the Spain midfielder says he almost feels English after living here for so long.
Fabregas added: “I’m 50-50! Listen, England gave me a lot in my life, in my career, Arsenal. I really identify with England. With the lifestyle, education, everything.
My daughter was born here, my wife is from here. Of course I’m Spanish, Catalan, but I feel really adapted to life here.
“I like many things. As I said, the education of the people, the lifestyle of the people.
I’m in love with London, I really like the city, how everyone behaves.
The kind of people who are around.
“Everyone treated me like a son from day one. People helped me to grow up.
I came here as a boy at 16, then I went back to Barcelona as a man and now I’m back and I will always be grateful to England in general, but London especially with Arsenal and Chelsea."
MOURINHO ALREADY EYEING SEVERAL PLAYERS FOR THE NEXT SEASON.
Jose Mourinho wants to bring in "two or three" new faces this summer.
The Manchester United boss guided his side to the EFL Cup on Sunday and immediately set his sights on adding more players and winning more trophies.
United are still 15 points adrift of Premier League leaders, Chelsea, and could finish the league outside the top four for the second season running, and Mourinho is already planning how he can cut the gap next term, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Mourinho told Sky Sports : "I think with this group of players, the squad we have and the difficulties we are having during the season, I think we are more than fine.
"I think we will be ready in July to open the door for two or three good players to help us to improve our level.
"You reach a certain level of stability, you find your way to play, your philosophy and this is very important.
We are stable in the way the team plays and we need one more push.
"The next push is the next transfer window. We didn't use it in the winter and we are obviously going to use it in the summer and trust the players we have.
"Like Mr Woodward was saying, we will keep a huge percentage of the players we have at this moment in the squad. We need the next push."

EPL WK 25: HULL v BURNLEY... PREVIEW/PREDICTION
STATS: Burnley are the lowest away scorers in the country with five goals.
Hull City v Burnley, 25 February
Burnley are unbeaten in their five PL matches against Hull (W4 D1), and their biggest PL away win was 4-1 at the KCOM Stadium in 2010.
ANALYSIS: A week after being humiliated and knocked out of the FA Cup by National League outfit Lincoln, Sean Dyche’s Burnley can now have a look at improving their dismal record away from home.
However, the Clarets have not won an away game all season and Hull, who have discovered their early season form, under new Manager, Marco Silva, are well capable of winning this.
PREDICTION: HULL should WIN it.
DATE: 25/02/2017.
KICKOFF: 4:00PM.
VENUE: KCOM STADIUM.
EPL WK 25: WEST BROM v BOURNEMOUTH... PREVIEW/PREDICTION.
STATS: Bournemouth are on a six-match winless run.
Only Liverpool (2,932km) and Man City (2,873km) have run further as a team than West Brom this season (2,852km).
ANALYSIS: West Brom have been excellent at the Hawthorns and could be overpriced to beat a Bournemouth team who are in danger of being dragged into a relegation battle after a decent start to the season.
The Cherries are on a dismal run and have conceded at least three goals in six of their last seven away games.
PREDICTION: WEST BROM WIN.
OVER 2.5.
DATE: 25/02/2017.
KICKOFF: 4:00PM.
VENUE: HAWTHORNS.
EPL WK 25: EVERTON v SUNDERLAND... PREVIEW/PREDICTION.
STATS: Everton won each of their last three home league games by at least a three-goal margin.
An Everton player has scored a hat-trick in two of the last three PL meetings with Sunderland (Arouna Kone in November 2015 and Romelu Lukaku in September 2016)
ANALYSIS: Everton are scoring goals for fun at Goodison Park and the Toffees can put Sunderland to the sword at Goodison Park.
The Black Cats gave their supporters some hope when they beat Crystal Palace 4-0 but went down losing by the same scoreline at home to Southampton days later.
PREDICTION: EVERTON could WIN this one but don't rule out a DRAW in this tie as Sunderland struggle to avoid relegation.
DATE: 25/02/2017.
KICKOFF: 4:00PM.
VENUE: GOODISON PARK.
EPL WK 25: CRYSTAL PALACE v MIDDLESBROUGH... PREVIEW/PREDICTION.
STAT: Palace have lost eight of their last nine home league games.
Crystal Palace can do a league double over Boro for the first time since 1992/93
ANALYSIS: A change of Manager have not improved the fortunes of the Crystal Palace yet.
And they will likely struggle against a seemingly disciplined Middlesbrough side.
The Eagles have just one Premier League win under Sam Allardyce and cannot be trusted as evidenced by their 4-0 capitulation at home to Sunderland.
You can't argue much of Boro's chances of getting something from this game.
PREDICTION: DRAW
DATE: 25/02/2017.
KICKOFF: 4:00PM.
VENUE: SELHURST PARK.
EPL WK 25: CHELSEA v SWANSEA... PREVIEW/PREDICTION.
STAT: Chelsea have won 11 straight home league games.
Diego Costa has scored more PL goals against Swansea (seven) than any other opponent
ANALYSIS: Swansea have tightened up since Paul Clement took charge at the Liberty Stadium but it's going to be an uphill task against Premier League favourites, Chelsea.
The Blues made it 11 straight home victories in a row when they beat Arsenal and are likely to prove too strong for the visiting Swans.
PREDICTION: CHELSEA are a very good bet for a WIN here, but with Swansea playing for their ''lives'', an upset shouldn't be ruled out here.
DATE: 25/02/2017.
KICKOFF: 4:00PM.
VENUE: STAMFORD BRIDGE.

LEICESTER CITY SACK COACH, CLAUDIO RANIERI... CLUB ISSUES STATEMENT.
The Foxes defied 5,000/1 odds to win the title last season but are starring relegation in the face.
The Foxes currently sit 17th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone.
In a club statement Leicester described Ranieri as "the most successful Leicester City manager of all-time".
CLUB'S STATEMENT :
Leicester City Football Club has tonight (Thursday) parted company with its First Team Manager, Claudio Ranieri.
Claudio, appointed City manager in July 2015, led the Foxes to the greatest triumph in the Club’s 133-year history last season, as we were crowned champions of England for the first time.
His status as the most successful Leicester City manager of all time is without question.
However, domestic results in the current campaign have placed the Club’s Premier League status under threat and the Board reluctantly feels that a change of leadership, while admittedly painful, is necessary in the Club’s greatest interest.
Leicester vice-chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said:
''This has been the most difficult decision we have had to make in nearly seven years since King Power took ownership of Leicester City.''
''But we are duty-bound to put the Club’s long-term interests above all sense of personal sentiment, no matter how strong that might be.
''Claudio has brought outstanding qualities to his office.''
''His skilful management, powers of motivation and measured approach have been reflective of the rich experience we always knew he would bring to Leicester City.''
''His warmth, charm and charisma have helped transform perceptions of the Club and develop its profile on a global scale.''
''We will forever be grateful to him for what he has helped us to achieve.''
''It was never our expectation that the extraordinary feats of last season should be replicated this season.
''Indeed, survival in the Premier League was our first and only target at the start of the campaign.
''But we are now faced with a fight to reach that objective and feel a change is necessary to maximise the opportunity presented by the final 13 games.

ANTHONY MARTIAL REVEALS WHY HE WILL NOT LEAVE MAN. UTD.
Martial scored 17 goals for United last season after signing from Monaco for £36million but has struggled to repeat those heroics this term.
The 21-year-old still has work to do to convince Mourinho of his enduring value, but a return to form has seen him start United’s last three games.
Asked if he saw himself staying at United long-term, Martial - whose fee could ultimately rise to £58m - said: “I love this club, I love Manchester United, I love the fans.
''They give me a lot of joy and I really enjoy having them backing me.
I try to be as good as possible to make them, to satisfy them''What I want is to stay at this club for as long as possible.”
Asked about his dip in form this season, Martial said: “It’s just because last year I played a lot, I had the possibility to play back-to-back games. Now I enjoy playing and we have to wait and see.”
Former Manchester United's defender, Paul Parker is being critical of Martial's contributions this season. Stressing that the Striker is letting his teammates down.
''People say Martial hasn’t been given the opportunity but when he has he’s not grasped it, Parker said.
When you look between the lines of his goals and assists there hasn’t been a lot of meat on the bone.
''Maybe this is the first time I’ve ever agreed with Mourinho in wanting more from him and you can look at stats but at the end of the day it’s about people and what they do in games.
''I still don’t think he does enough and gives the ball away cheaply.
When he does he then doesn’t respect the people around him by working hard trying to get it back again or putting himself in a position to stop opponents progressing.”
Martial will likely lead the line alongside Marcus Rashford as Swede Striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic look set to be rested for United's Europa League second leg clash at St. Etienne on Wednesday.

MANCHESTER UNITED POISED TO REVENGE THAT 4-0 MAULING AT CHELSEA.
Marcus Rashford claims Manchester United will be thirsty for revenge when they face Chelsea in the FA Cup.
Rashford claims United have not forgotten that humiliating 4-0 defeat by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in October and says they want to atone for that embarrassment in their quarter-final clash.
United have not won at Stamford Bridge since October 2012.
But the young striker is confident his side could get a result this time around.
Rashford said:
"Yeah, definitely, they've got one over us, so we have to go with the attitude to win basically."
"We're not going there to sit for a draw. We're going there to win the game and that's what everyone expects from Manchester United.
''At this stage of the competition, you're going to be facing a good team no matter where you go.
We're in a good position, so are they.
But we will go there confident of winning the game."
The 19-year old, scored United's equaliser in their fifth-round win over Blackburn to set up the Chelsea showdown.
He claimed United were determined not to be on the wrong end of another upset after seeing what happened to Burnley and Leicester earlier.
"You always get the surprises and shocks," he said.
"No matter the opponent, we come with the attitude to win every single game. That's important."
''THOSE WHO RUN BARCELONA TODAY HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO TREAT THEIR PLAYERS''... Dani Alves.
Dani Alves has blasted Barcelona for being 'false' and 'ungrateful' following his acrimonious departure last summer.
The Brazilian right-back spent eight years with the Blaugrana before a free transfer to Juventus.
The 33-year-old insists he was shown a lack of respect and that the club have 'no idea how to treat their players.'
"I like to be loved and when I'm not loved, I leave," Alves said in a candid interview with ABC.
"Leaving Barcelona on a free was a classy punch.
"During my last three seasons [at Barça] they always used to say Alves is leaving, but the directors never said anything to me.
They were extremely false and ungrateful.
They did not respect me.
"I was only offered a new deal when the FIFA transfer ban came in.
That was when I played them at their own game and signed a deal with a termination clause.
''Those who run Barcelona today have no idea how to treat their players."
BRAZILIAN STAR, LUIZ LEFT THE PITCH IN TEARS AFTER BEING SUBJECTED TO 'MONKEY CHATS'.
A football star left the pitch in tears after being subjected to shocking racist abuse from the terraces, reports The Mirror.
Partizan Belgrade midfielder Everton Luiz, 28, required the support of his team-mates after monkey noises were allegedly made in his direction.
The incident took place in Sunday's Belgrade derby against local rivals Rad Beograd.
Vile supporters unveiled a banner insulting Brazilian star Luiz before the end of the match, which Partizan won 1-0.
The referee halted the game while the banner was removed, while public messages were released by stewards to try and get the Rad fans to stop their chanting.
But the pleas were ignored.
At the final whistle, Luiz made a one-fingered gesture in the direction of the Rad fans, who had to be restrained by the police.
Following the match, Luiz said: "I've been suffering racist abuse during the entire 90 minutes and also was upset by the home players, who supported that.
They were all attacking me.
"I want to forget this as soon as possible.
I love Serbia and the people here, that is why I cried.
"But please say no to racism!"
Partizan coach Marko Nikolic added: "It's a return to the reality of Serbian football.
MOURINHO DECLARES CHELSEA EPL CHAMPIONS AS THE BLUES DRAW MAN UTD IN THE FA CUP LAST 8.
Manchester United's Manager, Jose Mourinho has started his usual mind games after being drawn against his former club Chelsea in the FA Cup.
Mourinho's Manchester United side came from behind to beat Blackburn and were then handed a return to Stamford Bridge – where they were hammered 4-0 earlier this season.
And Mourinho wasted no time in trying to get inside the minds of Chelsea's players by declaring them Premier League champions already and claiming he has no time to think about the FA Cup tie.
After Zlatan Ibrahimovic came off the bench to score his 24th goal of the season and rescue United from a replay they dreaded, Mourinho tried to play down the significance of drawing Chelsea.
Asked for his reaction to facing his old club again, Mourinho said: “No reaction.
“I have to play Saint-Etienne, I have to play the EFL Cup final, I have to play hopefully another opponent in the Europa League.
“I have to fight for a top-four position in the Premier League. I have so many things to think about.
''Chelsea can only think about that [the FA Cup] because they are champions and they have nothing else to fight for.
''The match is in one month’s time, so I don’t want to think about it.
"We're going to fight for the FA Cup, but the League Cup is the one we have a 50 per cent possibility to win.
''And the next one is to get a result against St Etienne on Wednesday and be in the last 16 of the Europa League.”
United have not won at Chelsea since October 2012 and Mourinho was humiliated on his last visit there in October, Antonio Conte's side subjecting him to his heaviest Premier League defeat.
Mourinho's side went behind to a Danny Graham goal in the 17th minute, with Marcus Rashford equalising before Ibrahimovic plundered the winner with 13 minutes left.
United boss Mourinho admitted the upsets in the fifth round - in particular non-League Lincoln knocking out Burnley – had focused his players' minds ahead of the clash with Championship strugglers Rovers.
“They really felt it was a difficult match,” said Mourinho. “What happened yesterday, with every Premier League team in difficult situations, was one more alert.
''The players knew it was difficult and came with the right attitude.”
Mourinho, already facing fixture pile-up with United fighting on four fronts, admitted a replay was the last thing he and his players needed, although he conceded Blackburn deserved a second chance.
"Blackburn probably deserved to go back to Old Trafford, but it’s probably better for them so they can focus on a very difficult Championship," said Mourinho.
"I really believed that a second match at Old Trafford would be a disaster.
We have some players on the bench ready to play, but a second leg at Old Trafford would be bad."

BATTLE OF WARRIORS AS THE POGBA BROTHERS FACEOFF AT OLD TRAFFORD ON THURSDAY.
Paul Pogba and brother Florentin have been likened to a pair of "warriors" ahead of
Manchester United's Europa League clash with Saint-Etienne.
It will be a family affair at Old Trafford on Thursday night, with Paul and Florentin set to come up against each other for the first time in their careers.
Red Devils striker Anthony Martial, believes that both siblings would be doing everything to win the tie.
''They are well known for being big jokers and mickey-takers but, once they are on the field, it will be like two warriors who are going all out to win the game," Martial told ManUtd.com .
"If one beats the other, he’ll immediately start giving out loads of stick so they’ll be desperate to do all they can to win!"
The match is also of added significance to Martial as he used to play for one of Saint-Etienne's biggest rivals, Olympique Lyonnais.
"There was a huge rivalry while I was still at Lyon – it was always a highly-charged atmosphere and they were usually massive games, the kind all players love to play in," Martial, added.
"So there will be that added competitive edge whenever I play against them.
''We know it will be a difficult match but if we play with all our quality, I think we can do good things.
''Of course, it would be great if I could score against them again, but I hope we can win the game because that’s the most important thing, then it would be a bonus if I managed to grab a goal.
"They have a tremendous following and I’m sure it will be lively — even more so as they’re not used to playing against big clubs like United.
"There’s always a great atmosphere there, even against the smaller teams, so I can’t imagine what it will be like against us.
''It will be up to us to put it out of our minds.
REVEALED! HOW JUVENTUS ALMOST SIGNED CRISTIANO RONALDO.
The inside story of Cristiano Ronaldo's £12million transfer to Manchester United in 2003 is very well known.
The Red Devils were facing off against Sporting Lisbon in a pre-season friendly in Lisbon and after an 18-year-old Ronaldo dazzled in the match, Sir Alex Ferguson spoke to the teenager and told him he wanted to snap him up then and there.
But the story could have been different.
Former Juventus sporting director Gianni Di Marzio has revealed that the Portguese star almost made the move to Italy a year earlier - only for Chilean striker Marcelo Salas to scupper the move.
Di Marzio agreed a swap deal which would have seen Ronaldo and Salas swap places, but the Chilean would not agree to the terms of the deal.
The move mooted deal initially came about after Di Marzio went to Lisbon to scout Ricardo Quaresma, but he did not play in the clash against Belenenses.
In his place was a rookie Ronaldo, who gave an early display of the talents that would one day win him the Ballon d'Or in just his third appearance for the club.
"He was eighteen when I worked at Juventus," Di Marzio told Marca .
"I called my club and told them I'd seen someone who would be the best player in the world, obviously after Maradona.
''I negotiated and brought Cristiano over to Turin in 2002 to sign for Juve, but Salas didn't accept the terms of the swap.
''For just a few million euros, Salas didn't want to leave and so Juventus lost out on Cristiano Ronaldo.
His agent [Jorge Mendes] knows this story very well."

MOURINHO EXPLAINS WHY LUKE SHAW HAS NOT BEEN PLAYING
Luke Shaw has been left out of recent Manchester United squads due to his lack of versatility.
The left-back played against Wigan in the FA Cup a fortnight ago but hasn't been in the squad for United's last three matches.
Matteo Darmian was in the squad for Saturday's win over Watford, at the expense of Shaw.
And boss Jose Mourinho has admitted the Italian was included because he can play in more positions than Shaw, reports the Manchester Evening News.
''The only thing I can say is that Luke is working well. I don't have any problem and he's working well.
He's fighting hard, there is no problem with him," he said.
"He has to work and wait," Mourinho stressed.
''But I want one defender on the bench and the defender on the bench is somebody who can play more than one position.
"And Darmian can play left-back, right-back and would be an emergency central defender for us, so my choice was Darmian.
United do not play another Premier League match until March 4 due to their progress in the FA Cup and EFL Cup final date with Southampton on February 26.
Other teams have capitalised on their eliminations from the domestic cup competitions to enjoy some warm weather training but Mourinho is hopeful the fixture congestion will be rewarding for United.
"The other teams will have points, so for sure that is going to happen but that's the way it is," he stressed.
''I don't think it's easy [the fixture schedule] because you want to play the competition but at the same time we have motivations.
We play Europa League, so let's enjoy Europa League, we play a cup final, I don't believe anyone who goes to Wembley is not happy to go, so we go, we play.
"We know that in this moment Southampton are probably going to have some days off, I don't know if they go in a summer camp to some nice, beautiful place with nice weather to prepare for the final, I don't know.
''The only thing I know is that their next game is the final and we have to play three matches during this period and we have to train in this cold weather and we have to train in the bad pitches at the time because the bad weather doesn't help the pitches.
"So our situation is not easy but we have to enjoy it because it's to play football, to play important matches."

WHY FELLAINI HAVE A GREAT RELATIONSHIP WITH MOURINHO, BUT GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHER COACHES.
Manchester United 's Midfielder Fellaini was criticised after conceding a late penalty at Everton and was even booed by United fans at Old Trafford. But within the space of a few weeks, Fellaini has got the supporters back to his side after proving himself an invaluable part of the Jose Mourinho ’s squad.
Now, the Belgian has revealed his connection with Mourinho was first formed when the Special One called him immediately after taking charge last summer.
Fellaini said: “I’ve always had good relationships with managers. But with Jose I have a great relationship. I respect him, he gives me confidence.
"He called me and texted me on my holiday to give me confidence and say he trusts me. When a manager calls you and says you are part of his plans and that he trusts you, then you will give everything for him.”
It is that sort of belief that helped Fellaini earlier in the season, and he is honest enough to hold up his hands to his mistake for bringing down Everton’s Idrissa Gueye as United dropped two points.
Mourinho made a point of bringing Fellaini on in their next Premier League game against Tottenham to show his support while the fans jeered.
The manager promised he “would always have his protection.”
“That’s football. Ok, I made a mistake,” said Fellaini. “I’m the first to know that I did. It was a mistake. That’s it, done, next game.
“There was a problem with the fans booing me after the Everton game, but after that it was done.
When I make a mistake I know it, when I do well I know it, when I do bad I know it.
“I am honest and I don’t need people to tell me. I had a lot of things in my life and my career, so I don’t need to keep thinking about a mistake. It’s part of football.
“When the manager asks me to do things on the pitch, I will try to do it and try to do it well. If the manager tells me something there is a reason so I do it. I am a team player. I know I am not a player who will dribble past five players and score, but I know my quality.
“I do my job, if the manager is happy that is the most important thing and then my team-mates.
There is always someone talking because Manchester United is a big club.
“I am used to it, so I don’t listen any more. I do my job and when the manager gives me a chance to play, I give everything.”
And on Manchester United's decent run lately, Fellaini said: “Yeah, we are on a great run. We haven’t lost for three months in the league. We lost (the EFL Cup semi-final's second leg) against Hull, but we are in the final so it’s good – we have to keep going.
“When a new manager comes in he has to find his balance, now he has it so we have to keep going, keep fighting and work hard. Everyone wants to show himself. We have a lot of confidence and everyone wants to play, so it’s good for the team.
“If you want to win things all the staff have to be together, as a family. We try to do that and and now we’ve had time it is more intense. It’s shown that we are strong.
“A club like Manchester United, they have to play Champions League so the minimum is to be top four. At the beginning of the season we wanted to be Champions. That’s normal at this club.
“But we lost points, we drew a lot. Games like Stoke and Hull and Burnley at home, we should win but we didn’t. Six points is a lot to drop in the Premier League.
"We have to win some games now and keep going to the end of the season".
