WENGER KEEN ON SIGNING THE ''NEXT THIERRY HENRY'' FROM MONACO.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is tracking Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe - a player he believes “could be another Thierry Henry.”
Mbappe has risen to prominence at Monaco over the last 18 months, since making his
Ligue 1 debut at 16, becoming Henry’s successor as the club’s youngest goalscorer at 17.
He has continued to progress under the stewardship of Leonardo Jardim this term, as Les Monégasques have broken out to become France’s most exciting side.
The France Under-19 international signed a new deal with Monaco last year, keeping him at the Stade Louis II until 2019, as the Principality club tied down one of their hottest prospects in the face of European interest.
Scouts have continued to flock however and Mbappe continues to make progress, with six goals and seven assists in 19 games this term.
Now Wenger has revealed that Arsenal are among those to be eyeing the young forward - who he describes as a “super talent”.
“He is not exactly Thierry Henry but it is true that he has similar qualities and the future and talent is similar,” Wenger declared, speaking to
the Ligue 1 show.
“The potential is similar, after that if he has the same level of motivation, desire and intelligence that Thierry has, and the next two to three years will tell us that, then he can be very promising.
“The guys that have super talent are already playing at 18. Those who are not playing at 18 or 19 do not have that exceptional talent and he does play over here at the top level.
''He is a guy who is electric like Thierry was, can dribble, can pass and is efficient.
“We follow him, we know him very well, and he is developing well. He extended his contract with Monaco last season and so it’s Monaco who is going to decide his future. He could be another Thierry Henry''.
