MIDDLESBROUGH SACK COACH, AITOR KARANKA.

Middlesbrough have sacked manager Aitor Karanka.
The Riversiders are without a win in 10 Premier League games, with their last success coming back on December 17.

In a speech after he was sacked, Karanka said: "I'd like to thank Middlesbrough for a wonderful opportunity and the players, staff and all the people at the club who I have worked with.

"I'd also like to thank the fans for their support. This club will always hold a special place for me and I wish everyone connected with Middlesbrough Football Club the very best for the future."

Karanka had been in charge for three-and-a-half years and guided the club to promotion last term.

But this season has been a frustrating one, with Boro now 19th in the Premier League table.
They have scored the fewest goals in English football this term, with just two coming since the turn of the year.

Karanka's departure was confirmed on Thursday morning ahead of the clash with Manchester United.

His final game in charge was the defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-final.
Steve Agnew will take temporary charge at the Riverside.

During the January transfer window, Karanka was left furious over a lack of activities at the Club and publicly questioned the board.

"The aim was to improve the club and we haven't. Have we got enough to stay up? I'll try my best," he said.
