CR7 AND MESSI ARE FRIENDS. THEY ARE NOT ''RIVALS''.

Why are fans and even pundits so interested in creating a rivarlry that seem not to exist.

The question has always been Cistiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi?

For the past nine years football has been asking this question and still has no clear answer.

Since 2008, the pair have shared the Ballon d'Or between them; and the Portuguese is the overwhelming favourite for this year's gong.

But why can't football fans just enjoy having two of the greatest players to have graced the game appear at the same time.

Because it certainly seems as though Ronaldo and Messi don't oppose each other.

Despite the Portuguese seemingly mocking the Argentine's celebration during the Spanish Super Cup first leg, the pair exchanged pleasantries in the players' tunnel prior to kick off.

Spotting the Barcelona attacker, the 32-year-old approached his pal.

"How are you Leo?" asked Ronaldo."Fine, and you?" replied Messi.

So, what's the rivarlry fuss all about?
