MEMPHIS DEPAY HAS BLAMED MOURINHO FOR HIS POOR STINT AT UNITED.

Manchester United flop Memphis Depay insists he would have been a hit at Old Trafford - had Jose Mourinho given him more playing time, reports the Mirror.

The Dutch winger made just one start last season - in the EFL Cup against Northampton - before being sold to Lyon in January.

Depay has had a decent start to the season in France, scoring in last weekend's win over Rennes, but still reflects on his time at Old Trafford as a missed opportunity, reports the Manchester Evening News.

"In the first season, I didn’t contribute enough,"
he told L'Equipe.

"But I really believe you need a year to succeed in the Premier League, it’s the fastest league in the world. The second, I had my self-belief back, but I didn’t play.

"It’s then that you look at yourself in the mirror and you ask yourself a lot of questions: ‘Am I not good enough?’ It was really tough.

"To stay positive, you have to be very strong mentally. That experience made me grow up and is useful to me today."

United paid PSV Eindhoven £26.3million for Memphis in 2015 and handed the Eredivisie champion the number seven shirt ahead of the new season.

However, Memphis struggled to transmit his phenomenal form in the Netherlands to the Premier League and ended his United career with just two league goals.

The club insisted on a buy-back clause in his Lyon contract.
