RONALDO HAS TERMED HIS BAN ''PERSECUTION'', BUT THANKS TEAMMATES AND FANS.

Cristiano Ronaldo has slammed his five-match ban for a red card and then pushing the referee as "exaggerated and ridiculous".

The Real Madrid star's appeal of the ban from Real Madrid's 3-1 win over Barcelona as "persecution" in an explosive Instagram post.

The Portuguese reacted angrily after being given a harsh second yellow for diving as a substitute in the Super Copa - that carried a one-match ban.

Spanish authorities gave the reigning Ballon d'Or winner an additional four-game ban for the physical altercation, the minimum for minor contact with a referee (with the maximum being 12 matches).

In a post translated from Portuguese before tonight's second Super Cup leg, he said on Instagram: "Impossible to be immune to this situation, 5 games!

"It seems to me exaggerated and ridiculous, this is called persecution!
"Thanks to my teammates for the support and the fans."
