AGUERO EXTENDS NEW MANCHESTER CITY CONTRACT
Sergio Aguero has signed a contract extension with Manchester City until 2020 - but boss Pep Guardiola says he still wants more from him.
Aguero was contracted until 2019 but Guardiola confirmed City’s 18-goal striker has penned a one-year extension to that deal.
But Guardiola said he expects more from Aguero - who is under pressure from new £27million signing Gabriel Jesus - in terms of converting chances.
“Of course he wants to score, and sometimes he has had the chances,” said Guardiola.
“We can review the Chelsea game and how many chances he had. “He had the chances - we had the chances.
“Last game, the cross for Sergio, nothing, he don’t arrive there. I don’t know the other managers, to give some advice in the box to score a goal.
“It’s so difficult to improve, because it depends on the quality of the players. For example, the second goal against Burnley, it’s almost impossible to do it and he did it, that shows his talent.”
Despite City failing to formally announce Aguero’s contract extension, Guardiola confirmed the forward, who has 18 goals this season, has committed to an extra year.
''He has already signed a contract extension,” said Guardiola. “Sergio will be here until he decides not to be here.
“He’s our best striker. We have a problem with goals, so we need him. What I want is the best possible. He will decide [when he leaves], not me.”
Aguero has yet to score against any of the other sides in the top seven of the Premier League this season, a statistic not lost on Guardiola.
“He knows that, I know that, but we don’t discuss about that,” said Guardiola.
“He will score against a top team, they are good teams. But we have to try to help him to score against the top teams.”
