MICHAEL CARRICK HAILS 'STRONG' WAYNE ROONEY.

Michael Carrick has hailed Wayne Rooney for silencing his critics throughout his Manchester United career.

The England skipper scored his 250th goal for the Red Devils in Saturday's draw at Stoke to break Sir Bobby Charlton's goalscoring record.

And Carrick has piled praise on his teammate for the way he has coped with the pressure at the top for so long.

He told the BBC: “To play at the level he has done for so long, since he was 16/17 years old when he burst on the scene, not just club but for his country as well.

“You can't underestimate how tough it is to play so many games and have that scrutiny in the spotlight on you constantly.

“How he has dealt with that and how he has answered back and how he has shut people up over the years when they have questioned him, and he's still going strong today.”
