Manchester United Boss,Jose Mourinho had planned to restore his Captain to the starting line up for the Europa league game against Zorya. But Rooney's back Injury would likely cause the England Captain to start from the bench or even miss the match entirely.
Mourinho claims that he will only play his Captain when he's fully fit, so as to protect him from unnecessary criticisms.
The Special One said, " I was completely convinced of playing him tomorrow from the beginning, but with this situation in the last couple of days, I'm not sure if I do that because of the situation you created with him (Mourinho talking to the press).
"He can't afford to have a performance that is not really good. Because I'm here to protect him, and not to put him in difficult situations", Mourinho added.
"I have to analyse whether the best thing for him is to start the game if he's not totally ready for it. "If he's not totally ready for it, I will discuss that with the medical staff .
With Rooney likely to start from the bench, and United needing a leader on the pitch, Mourinho declared, "Zlatan Starts".
