Daniela, 24, who is the sister of Arsenal and Colombia goalkeeper David Ospina, split from Rodriguez this summer after being married for six years.
Despite reports of other reasons being behind the split, Ospina has set the record straight.
Daniela, also a businesswoman, said: "I did not want to travel to Germany because I wanted to continue as an entrepreneur in Colombia and Spain.
She added: "James Rodriguez had decided to go to Bayern Munich to give a twist to his career.
"It was obviously difficult and sad, but thanks to God we have managed it with a lot of maturity and calmness.
"We only want to protect our child because when we decided to have her, we knew it was a lifelong responsibility.
"Regardless of the things that came between us, we both admire each other, we respect each other and we know that it is important to have a good relationship in order to raise our daughter as she should be raised."
Ospina and Rodriguez have one daughter together. The progress of their divorce is not clear.
When the news of the couple's break up emerged in July, Daniela's manager try to clarify the situation with a message to the media.
A statement from Ospina’s manager confirmed the pair had made the decision amicably.
The message said, “Daniela Ospina and James Rodriguez, parents to Salome Rodriguez Ospina, are making official their separation after six and half years of marriage.
“It is done in the best possible terms and it is a mutual decision.
They’ll maintain a relationship of love and of respect, always with Salome’s well being at heart.”
The couple, both Colombian, had married when they were teenagers.
