"LUKAKU WILL BEAT MY SCORING RECORDS"; SAYS VAN NISTELROOY.
Ruud van Nistelrooy has backed Romelu Lukaku to beat his Manchester United scoring records.
According to the Mirror, the Dutchman was speaking after Manchester United Legends' 2-2 draw with Barcelona at Old Trafford.
Van Nistelrooy was on target along with Danny Webber for the hosts while Luis Garcia and Gaizka notched for the Blaugrana.
The ex-Red Devils striker scored 150 goals during five seasons at United and bagged in 10 consecutive Premier League games, a record at the time.
After 12 years it was Jamie Vardy who beat the record by scoring in 11 straight games during Leicester City's title winning campaign.
Speaking to Full Time Devils on whether Lukaku can beat his records, van Nistelrooy said: "Absolutely. Yeah. I had my time.
I tried to make the most of my time as a player, but [my] time's gone, behind me.
"I've done what I could and now I hope that other players will go on and do better."
When asked if he believes Lukaku is good enough, van Nistelrooy added: "Why not?
"I was following Jamie Vardy's run of consecutive games - it was fantastic. You have to applaud players who break records - even if they're your own. It's great to see that."
Van Nistelrooy retweeted the video with the caption: "Totally agree with this guy..."
And it appears he wasn't alone, Lukaku himself saw the Tweet and liked it.
