WAYNE ROONEY ARRESTED ON DEADLINE DAY.

Everton striker Wayne Rooney has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving, the Mirror reports.

England's all-time record scorer was stopped by police near his home in Cheshire on Thursday night, after an evening out with pals.

Rooney who announced his international retirement last week after 53 goals for his country in 119 appearances, spent the evening at a bar in Alderley Edge, believed to be The Bubble Room.

A fellow customer, Shropshire cricketer Jack McIver, posted a picture of himself with the 31-year-old at the venue on social media at 10pm.

He was later pulled over and taken to a local police station where he was quizzed by officers.

Rooney lives five miles away in a £6million home in Prestbury, where he, wife Coleen and his children have been for the last 12 years.

Earlier in the day he had trained at Everton's Finch Farm training ground.
Rooney's spokesman told his staff to reply “no comment” to enquiries from journalists this morning.

Cheshire Police, The Bubble Room and Everton Football Club have also declined to comment.

Rooney re-joined his boyhood club Everton in the summer, and scored in each of his opening two Premier League games following his return from Manchester United.

Rooney, Coleen, Kai, Klay and Kit are planning to move to a new purpose-built £10million mansion in the heart of the Cheshire countryside.

Coleen recently announced that she is pregnant, expecting the couple's fourth child.

Rooney played in Everton's 2-0 defeat at
Chelsea on Sunday and spoke after about looking forward to a rest during the international break.

England's most-capped outfield player announced his retirement the day before Gareth Southgate selected his squad for Friday night's clash with Malta, and Monday's meeting with Slovenia.
Speaking after the loss at Stamford Bridge, Rooney said: "I feel good. I tired towards the end there because of the heat and we were chasing the ball a lot which makes it difficult.

"But in general I feel good and I can have a good rest now and be ready for the next game.'

Everton's next match is against Tottenham, at Goodison Park, on September 9.
