FOOTBALL HIGHLIGHTS THE PAST WEEKEND ACROSS THE GLOBE; by Iyke Ojiobi.

It was going to be a thrilling encounter, and yes it was, in Manchester! Though it was one-sided. Liverpool's four-goal demolition of Arsenal a fortnight ago, were served back to them, with an extra chip for keeps.
It however, would have been a different result or at least a less embarrassing scoreline for the Reds, had Saido Mane practiced his new Karate skills elsewhere other than the football pitch.

Meanwhile, the other half of Manchester who have become more noisy lately, couldn't maintain their 100% start to the season.
The Red devils could only maintain their winless record at the Britannia since 2014. Impressive! Isn't it?...

Write off the Blues... at your peril. It has always been a destined "marriage" between Kante and Conte (No offence). The two guys have combined to guide Chelsea close to the top; and on Saturday, the defending  Champions proved that they are the true Blues despite adorning white kits for the showpiece against the men in Blue.

At the Emirates, the ghost of that 4-0 loss to Liverpool before the international break was banished as Arsenal made easy work of Bournemouth. The cherries hardly fails to convince everyone that they are truly relegation candidates.

Who would have predicted this... Watford ahead of Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal on the table, and in the Champions League places? There's really a 'SILVA' lining at Vicarage road.
Watch out for the Hornets!

He's always in the news. Isn't he?
In one week, he was involved in a hat trick of events; yes! He's Wayne Rooney!
He was caught red-handed, drink-driving and cheating on his wife. However, he completed his hat trick on Saturday. The Evertonian became the second player in premier league history to reach triple figures in bookings. Yes! You read it well! Despite leading a toothless front line that was beaten 3-0 by Tottenham on Saturday, the England record scorer received his 100th booking in the top flight same day. Just 19 bookings away from the all time record of Gareth Barry.
That's phenomenal, isn't it?

It's a pitiable condition for Crystal Palace whose Manager Frank De Boer must be fearing for his job after just 4 forgettable games. Sorry Frankie, the EPL is so unforgiving.

Brighton and Newcastle deservedly got their rewards for doing so well in their respective games.

Elsewhere, a star-studded PSG made it look so easy against Metz on Friday. Kylian Mbappe grabbed a brace, though it's still early days, but the French wizkid look set to win back-to-back Ligue 1 championship with different clubs. Remember, he's still a teenager.

Monaco were thoroughly thrashed and Olympic Marseille only flattered to deceive as they took some beating in their own backyard.

I don't think anybody saw it coming, but it happened, Bayern were humbled by Hoffeinham in Germany.

Ronaldo-less Real Madrid drew again, while Messi reminded everyone  of his enduring class with his derby day hat trick.

Lastly, in the beautiful city of Jos Plateau in Nigeria, on Saturday, Plateau United were crowned the Champions of the Nigeria professional football league after beating the defending Champions Enugu Rangers 2-0 to lift the championship for the first time in their history.

We send our prayers and good wishes to an estimated 110,000 people who were affected after a torrential downpour caused the River Benue to breach its banks across the marshy plains of Makurdi, Benue state, Nigeria on August 27, washing off a deluge of muddy water into an estimated 46,000 homes and offices overnight.

We equally sympathise with the people in South Florida, Texas, the Caribbean islands and all parts of America who have been affected by Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Harvey in the past days.

See you next week and have a fabulous day.
