EXPLOSIVES ALMOST KILLED LEWANDOWSKI DURING A WORLD CUP QUALIFIER.

The World Cup qualifier between Romania and Poland had to be suspended on Friday night, after a smoke grenade thrown from the stand landed very close to Robert Lewandowski, and exploded in close proximity to the Bayern Munich Star.

At the early stage of the second half in Bucharest, the game was stopped for about 10 minutes with the Polish Skipper requiring medical attention,

The incident occurred at a corner, with the visitors on the defensive and forced referee Damir Skomina to interrupt proceedings for the second time.

Lewandowski was organising at the front post on the six-yard box, a flare dropped a few yards from his feet and the projectile exploded.

The Bayern star, however returned to the field of play to double Poland's lead, after Kamil Grosicki's opener.

He then went on to seal the game with an injury time penalty, to make it a comfortable night for the Polish.

The result has pushed Poland to the top of Group E, with 10 points from their first four matches.
