CHELSEA SET TO SIGN REAL MADRID'S DANILO.

Chelsea have won the race for £28million Real Madrid right-back Danilo, reports The Mirror Sport.

The Premier League champions are set to step up their spending after making a slow start in the transfer market.

Antonio Conte — beaten to the signature of Romelu Lukaku by Manchester United — has seen off Juventus for 25-year-old Danilo to strengthen his defence.

Chelsea hope to be able to complete the deal before Conte takes his squad out to the Far East for pre-season training next week.

He is also keen to rub salt into the wound for the Italian champions by pinching Danilo’s Brazilian compatriot Alex Sandro.

Juventus are determined to keep the Blues at arm’s length by raising the asking price — which now stands at £70million — for the 26-year-old.

Sandro, however, has so far indicated he wants to move to Stamford Bridge and Chelsea are hopeful they will be able to reunite him with Danilo, his former Porto team-mate.

They are also set on blocking any move from Barcelona to sign versatile defender Cesar Azpilicueta.

The 27-year-old is able to play on either flank and on the right of a three at the back.

Conte, however, wants to maintain his squad’s strength in depth with a title challenge as well as a Champions League campaign ahead.
