RYAN GIGGS ENJOYING THE BATTLE BETWEEN MARTIAL AND RASHFORD AT UNITED.
Ryan Giggs says he is enjoying the battle between Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial for a starting spot in Manchester United’s first XI.
With Romelu Lukaku’s goals since his summer arrival, the England youngster and his French counterpart have been vying against one another for a position on the left side of United’s attack this term.
Rashford has started six of United’s seven Premier League matches, and has five goals and four assists to his name in all competitions.
But French starlet Martial has also featured in nine matches across all competitions, and has made his 370 minutes count with five goals and six assists for the Red Devils.
With the duo in excellent form it gives Jose Mourinho a conundrum as to whether he can get both in his starting lineup moving forward.
Old Trafford legend Giggs believes the time for the pair to start together will come, but he is enjoying seeing the battle between the pair right now.
"The battle between Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial has been great to follow," Giggs said to Sky Sports.
"I could definitely see them in the same team, with Marcus being more of a natural centre-forward whereas Martial is more of a left-sided forward but can also play centrally.
"They have got incredible pace so they are extremely dangerous, although to be considered top players they need to be scoring 20 goals a season.”
Rashford is on international duty with England this week for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, but Martial has been left out of the France squad by Didier Deschamps.
Deschamps has suggested he needs to start more matches to be picked by Les Bleus.
"He’s a player who’s probably better when he starts than when he comes on," Deschamps said last week. "A bit like Lacazette.
"All 24 players want to start. Anthony is much better, he’s decisive. The last game [at CSKA] highlights what he can do. He’s getting back to a good level. He’s more used by Mourinho.
"He could have been in the squad. It’s a choice. He was there during the Euros, he went through a tough time, which he got over. I can only tell him to continue to make me think about him."
