WE ARE READY TO BUY COUTINHO IN THE WINTER MARKET; BARCA CHIEF DECLARES!

Barcelona chief executive Oscar Grau has warned Liverpool the Catalan giants will once again attempt to prise Philippe Coutinho away from Anfield in January.

Barca failed in their summer-long pursuit of the Brazilian who they had eyed as a potential replacement for Neymar after he joined Paris Saint-Germain for a world record fee, report the Liverpool Echo.

Coutinho submitted a transfer request and Barca had three bids rejected as Liverpool stood firm and turned down a final offer of £118million.

Grau insists they haven’t given up the chase but Liverpool’s stance remains unchanged and they have no intention of selling Coutinho midway through the season.

“We are ready to buy Coutinho in the winter market or any player the technical staff request,” Grau said.

“But it is important to adjust ourselves, so if there are to be arrivals, there must be exits as well.

“We must forget about the price paid for Neymar last summer. After taxes we received about €188m in income and a direct financial impact on the club’s treasury of €144m.”
